Placing a Money Line Bet
One of the easiest and most effective ways on how to risk a minimal amount of money to win a lot back would be through placing a money line sports bet. This basically means that you would either be picking the favorite or the underdog to win. However, there are sportsbooks who would make you risk more so you can bet on the favorite and would sometimes give you money so you can bet on the underdog. If you are wondering how placing a money line bet is done, here are the steps that you can follow.
1. First, you need to decide on the total amount of money that you can afford to lose on all of your bets. This would be referred to as your bankroll.
2. You should then look for an online sportsbook or a casino sportsbook who can place your bet. If you are at a casino, then you can look for the board which lists all the games that you can bet on by sport. Choose the sports event that you would like to bet on and check the teams who would be playing. At the right portion of the teams, you would see numbers that have plus and minus signs beside them; these would be your money lines.
3. You can then decide whether you would like to bet on a favorite or an underdog. An underdog would have a smaller number that has a plus sign beside it. A favorite would never have a plus sign beside its money line number. Money lines are usually in the hundreds. These would be multipliers. For instance, a money line of 100 would be even money: you would basically be wagering as much as you earn back. A money line of -110 would mean that you would need to give the amount of your wager and an additional 10 percent in order to make the bet. A money line that reads +110 would mean that if you win, would be getting the amount of your wager and an additional 10 percent back.
4. Proceed to the cashier to place your bet. Provide the cashier with the number of the team you would be betting on. This number would be found to the left of the team. Also tell the cashier if you would be playing the money line.
5. You would then be handed with a ticket. Check if all the information is correct before leaving the cashier. If you win, you can return with your ticket to the cashier so you can collect your winnings.
